Freud to Present Government's Case for Welfare Reform

Welfare Minister Lord Freud will present the Government’s case for reform before housing association and local authority staff at a conference debating the impact of the Welfare Reform Act.  Welfare Reform: Handling the change, hosted by the National Housing Federation on 23 May 2012, will address the key housing elements of welfare reform, including under-occupation (or the “bedroom tax”), the overall benefit cap, Universal Credit and the end of direct payments. Expert-led sessions will discuss how tenant debt can be minimised, explore the law on dealing with arrears, and give a lender’s perspective on the financial risks to landlords.  Delegates will also see a preview of the direct payment demonstration projects, set to start in June 2012.  Find full details on the NHF website.
