Council and ALMO in Estate Management Overhaul

Making housing estates nice areas to live has been a priority for both the City Council and Nottingham City Homes, and they achieve this by working with other agencies. However, the Area Committee boundaries and management structure make such cooperation difficult.  Now all that is about to change.  A Nottingham City Council spokesperson said "Operationally council staff and other agencies work at a ward level through Neighbourhood Action Teams. The current model, although effective at driving service improvement, has been hampered by the practical problem of agency boundaries such as police beats and housing patches that do not coincide, and this has hindered both front line deliveries."  Nottingham City Council now plans to amend its constitution on 14th May to allow changes to its Area Committee boundaries across the city, reducing the number to nine, a move that will save costs and provide better coordination among agencies.  The change will introduce City Centre Area covering those parts of Areas 4, 6 and 8 that fall within the City Centre. At present The Area 6 Committee of St Ann's & the Dales extends into the city centre, and includes part of Shakespeare Street. In the new arrangement, Area 6 will absorb Mapperley, and lose its city centre responsibility, while Area Committee 5 will lose its Mapperley responsibility and would cover Berridge and Sherwood instead.  Read more on the Evening Post website.
