Advice for councils on housing homeless people in the
private rented sector has been delayed following revelations that London councils are
trying to move people to cheaper areas. The
Communities and Local Government department was due to publish the guidance,
setting out what PRS accommodation is appropriate for councils to use. But after admissions from London councils that they would be forced to
ship people out to cheaper areas to avoid being hit by the cap to housing
benefit, housing minister Grant Shapps suggested a clause about location should
be included in the document, expected to be published this month. Read more on Inside Housing.
