The price of privately renting a home in England and Wales rose for a sixth successive
month in September according to lettings agent network LSL Property
Services. Rents hit a new record high in
September of £741 per month. Although the increase of 1.1 per cent was lower
than August’s 1.2 per cent, the figure represents a rise of 3.2 per cent from
the same time last year. This means that rents are going up at a faster rate than
inflation, with the Office for National Statistics last month announcing that
the consumer price index for September was just 2.2 per cent. Read more on Inside Housing.
