The number of people forced to stay in temporary
accommodation - which includes a shocking 60% increase in the number of
children and pregnant women living in B&Bs – continues to rise, with rough
sleeping in England jumping by nearly a quarter (23%) a new
report shows. Homeless Bound, by the
National Housing Federation, also shows that over a third of families with
children living in B&Bs had been there longer than the Government’s
six-week limit, a 200% increase in two years.
It found that a ‘perfect storm’ of rising rents, insecure private
tenancies and a lack of affordable housing has led to a sharp increase in
homelessness – with many low-income families now facing the very real prospect
of being homeless. Download a copy of the report from the NHF website.
