Bedroom Tax Backlash

Now even Iain Duncan Smith's own aide tells of fears it will hit vulnerable people.  Tory MPs’ secret fears about the impact of the bedroom tax on the poor and vulnerable have been exposed. Work Secretary Iain Duncan Smith’s own Parliamentary “bag carrier” Andrew Selous is among those who have written to town hall chiefs urging them not to subject constituents to the penalty. Environment Secretary Owen Paterson, fellow minister Alistair Burt and deputy chief whip John Randall are among other MPs who have asked what help is available for those who will struggle to pay.  Mr Selous said “just giving short-term” discretionary payments to help [those affected]  meet the higher rent payments was not enough.
