Homeless Numbers Rise Again

The latest Government figures on statutory homelessness in England show that the number of people applying to councils for help with housing has continued to increase. Key points are;
    *Applications in Q4 2012 (29,060) is up by 6% from Q4 2011 (27,470).
    *Acceptance numbers (13,570) increased by 6% compared Q4 2011 (12,830).
    *Rate of acceptance is the same as last year at 47%.
    *9% increase in use of temporary accommodation (53,130 in Q4 2012 from 48,920 in Q4 2011).
    *Notable increases in the use of B&Bs (up 26%), Other Private Sector accommodation (up 27%) and LA or Housing Association stock (up 14%).
    *Households placed in other LAs has also increased from 7,350 to 9,270 (up 32%)
    *Nearly one in four (23%) acceptances is due to end of shorthold tenancies. This is the highest ever recorded.
