A future Labour government would reverse the coalition’s
policy of direct payment of housing benefit to tenants, according to the shadow
work and pensions minister. In an exclusive interview with Inside Housing, Liam
Byrne said that housing benefit should be paid directly to landlords if tenants
opt not to receive it direct. ‘If tenants so choose, money should go direct to
