Coventry City Council has apologised to low-income families
who were wrongly told they could not appeal against cuts to their housing
benefit known as the “bedroom tax”.
Council letters informed households of the benefits they could lose
under the government’s new scheme – if they were deemed to have more bedrooms
than they need. The council has now
accepted the letters wrongly stated: “You are unable to appeal against this
decision.” The letter was challenged by campaign group Coventry Against the
Bedroom Tax, which said refusing an appeal is against the law. Read more on the
Coventry Telegraph website.
