The number of homes purchased under the Right to Buy scheme
between April 2012 and April 2013 more than doubled on the previous 12 months,
totalling 5,942. The figures also
represent the highest number of sales under the scheme since 2007. The sales have generated £368 million in
gross income - money that the government claims will be used to build new
affordable homes for rent. A total of
2,449 properties were sold between January and March this year, more than four
times the 566 sold during the same period in 2012. But there were only 465
replacement homes started or acquired in the same period. Download the
statistical release from the GovUK website.
