Charities are working together to map out which local
authorities are handing out emergency loans to vulnerable people to help them
with housing costs.
Homelessness charities have had difficulty securing ‘crisis
loans’ since the government transferred the £178.2 million fund for these and
community care grants to councils on 1 April.
One of the main uses for these loans for homeless people, which were
previously handed out by job centres, was to pay for deposits or rent advances
to secure private rented sector accommodation.
