Tenants will be hit with
rent rises as a result of a licensing scheme set to be introduced in
Nottingham, a group of landlords has warned. Nottingham City Council is
considering requiring the landlords renting the city’s estimated 3,500 houses
in multiple occupancy to apply for an additional licence. The licence will cost
£980-per-property with a re-license fee of £925 after five years, making it one
of the most expensive in the country when it is introduced next month. The
council hope the licensing scheme will protect the health and safety of
tenants, help prevent anti-social behaviour and help identify rogue landlords.
