The deputy prime minister said the Bank of England would
closely monitor the Help to Buy scheme and, if it doesn't prove effective, it
could be "stopped altogether". Speaking at an event in east London, Deputy
Prime Minister Nick Clegg dismissed concerns that the scheme would make the
problem of the "overheated" property market in the capital worse.
However, he said the government needed to be "vigilant" and ensure
the scheme did not provide "inappropriate stimulation to the housing
