Housing associations should act as "anchors"
for social enterprises and adopt their principles to tackle community issues
such as fuel poverty, deprivation and poor health. Melanie Mills, chief
executive of Social Enterprise West Midlands (SEWM), told a forum of around 20
registered social landlords that housing associations are "already active
in the areas many of our members want to be working in, which gives way to
potentially very successful partnerships".
