Councils Should Not Charge Section 106 Unless 'Pressing Need' Exists, Says Boles

Developers should not be made to pay section 106 contributions unless there is a ‘pressing need for them’, the planning minister has said. Nick Boles slammed local authorities for ‘pocketing’ millions levied from developers to fund infrastructure, amenities and affordable housing. The minister said: ‘Such levies add to the cost of building homes and business expansion. If there is no pressing planning need for them, they should not be charged in the first place.’ Read more on Inside Housing.
