More than 16,000 people have been wrongly charged the
bedroom tax and are exempt under the loophole, freedom of information requests
submitted by the Labour Party have revealed. The party received FOI information
from 140 local authorities, despite submitting requests to 346 councils, and
the total number wrongly charged households was 16,460. This figure revealed by
the FOI requests is three times more than the Department for Work and Pensions
