A regional procurement consortium is looking to
capitalise on the next round of the Affordable Homes Programme by offering its
members a ready-made package for the construction of new homes. Efficiency East Midlands (EEM) has launched
Build Homes (EMBuild), a concept that makes use of timber frame,
pre-fabrication techniques to deliver new housing. The consortium has presented
its model to its 21 member organisations, fellow consortia, and representatives
of the HCA. EMBuild was put together
with the 2015-2018 Affordable Homes Programme in mind, which is offering £1.7bn
of funding towards the delivery of 165,000 new homes. EEM’s scheme will procure
main contractors and off-site manufacturers, providing housing providers with a
compliant choice of off-site system build options. This will be accessible for
EEM members and other consortia through a call-off, or by replicating the
model, the organisation said. Read more on the Housing Excellence website.
