A major new drive to build more homes is the only way to
tackle Britain’s housing crisis, George Osborne has warned. The Chancellor used his Mansion
House speech to announce the government will make it easier for brownfield
sites to be developed. Changes are to be made to reduce the red-tape which
prevents public sector land which is no longer needed being sold off to
developers. The government is under pressure to act on housing, with property
prices rising in a year by 17 per cent in London and 8 per cent nationwide.
