More than 14,000 people were claiming universal credit in
September, government figures have shown. DWP figures show 16,590 households
were claiming the new benefit from 36 Jobcentres as of 11 September, compared
to 11,070 in August. Universal credit, which is currently only available to
single people and couples, has in the last few weeks been rolled out to a
