Ed Milliband would scrap the New Homes Bonus if Labour
gain power in next year’s election. The Labour leader unveiled the plan, which
has been branded as ‘ineffective’ by the party, as part of his plan to cut the
local government budget by £100m. As part of his plan to cut the deficit, Mr
Miliband said he would make ‘sensible cuts’. Setting out the plans for the
move, Labour said, in its third interim report from Labour’s Zero-Based Review,
that it would ‘end the complex, regressive and ineffective ‘New Homes Bonus’’
and it said it would reallocate the funding ‘more fairly’ within local government.
