The number of affordable and social homes registered in
the last three months fell 14% in the United Kingdom compared to the same
period a year ago. Figures from the National House Building Council showed a
drop in every region in England, balanced by rises in Scotland, Wales and
Northern Ireland. In London, 1,467 new homes were registered with the NHBC
between November and January, compared to 2,202 in the corresponding period
last year – a fall of 33%. The largest drop was in the north east where just 71
homes built by councils and housing associations were registered compared to
189 for the same period last year. Read more on Inside Housing.
