No council wants to lose their housing stock, especially
when social housing becomes increasingly scarce. Barking and Dagenham have
offered 40 of their tenants a £40,000 cash payment in place of their Right to
Buy discount. The council tenants would have to buy a home on the open market
by 31st March in a scheme known as ‘Right to Buy Social Mobility’. The £40,000
cash payment will be used toward the open market purchase of the house, meaning
the council stock remains with the council. Read more on 24dash.
