Council Looks To Safeguard Its Housing From Right To Buy

No council wants to lose their housing stock, especially when social housing becomes increasingly scarce. Barking and Dagenham have offered 40 of their tenants a £40,000 cash payment in place of their Right to Buy discount. The council tenants would have to buy a home on the open market by 31st March in a scheme known as ‘Right to Buy Social Mobility’. The £40,000 cash payment will be used toward the open market purchase of the house, meaning the council stock remains with the council. Read more on 24dash.
