Government plans to reform Section 21 evictions could
lead to fewer rural homes being available for rent, warns the Central
Association of Agricultural Valuers (CAAV). The CAAV has said the new laws
could lead to landlords swapping tenures to holiday lets, selling homes or
leaving properties empty. Kate Russell, policy and technical advisor at the CAAV
said: “We understand there are issues [with tenancies] in the private rented
sector but the rural economy does get overlooked as it operates in a rather
different way than urban-dominated activity. You have traditional landowners
who have been in the business of letting properties for centuries, small-scale
farmers and individuals, it’s a different set-up.” Read more on Inside Housing.
