The government must carry out an urgent review of the
rules around green belt land to help address London’s acute housing crisis, a
new report has argued. With the capital needing 65,000 new homes a year to cope
with demand, business group London First, together with consultancy Community
Research, convened a jury of 12 Londoners to discuss the green belt. Both sides
of the debate about building on such land gave evidence and a resulting
vote found 11 members of the jury agreeing that some form of review of the
rules governing the green belt was needed to address what it called “a terrible
crisis for housing in London”. Read more on Housing Today.
