An estimated 127,580 starts were made in the 12 months to the end of December 2020, a 16% drop on the previous year, government figures show. This is the lowest number of starts since 2013. Completions were similarly hit, down 17% year-on-year to an estimated 148,630, according to the figures from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government. This was the lowest figure since 2016. The government currently has a target to be building 300,000 new homes a year by the mid-2020s. Read more on Inside Housing.
