Low income families will not be able to live in new housing association homes in the future, the shadow housing minister has warned. Alison Seabeck said that the product the government calls ‘affordable rent’ will be anything but in some cases. Ms Seabeck indicated that affordable rent and time limited tenancies are unlikely to be part of Labour’s housing solution. ‘In some cases [affordable rent] is putting RSL accommodation out of the reach of low income families,’ she said. Time-limited tenancies, which are also set to be introduced by the government, will see hard-working families ‘sold a dud’, she added.
