Redbridge Council is poised to bring the management of council housing in the borough back in house. That is the preferred option the council will present to its cabinet this month. The ALMO Redbridge Homes - which manages around 7,000 homes - was formed in 2007 to help unlock funding through the Government’s Decent Homes Programme. Bringing the service in house, the council says, could save it around £400,000 a year. The council says it represents the most efficient and cost-effective option as there would be less duplication of roles and responsibilities between the services provided by the ALMO and the council. If the council's cabinet agrees to consult further on the option of bringing landlord services currently delivered by Redbridge Homes in house, consultation will begin shortly, the local authority said. A further report will go to cabinet in January, detailing the results of the consultation and the final recommendation on whether or not to bring services in house. Read more on 24dash.
