Two-thirds of ALMOs in England plan to be working in the
private rented sector by the end of this year according to a new report by the
National Federation of ALMOs (NFA). ‘Right Time Right Place – Engaging with the
Private Rented Sector’, sets out the reasons why so many ALMOs are engaging
with the private rented sector to address housing need, drive up quality and
standards of private rented lettings and support local communities. The growing
private rented sector is now bigger than the social rented sector and the trend
is set to continue over the next five years, with a predicted increase of at
least one million more households. But despite its growth regulation has not
kept pace and although private rents are on average twice those of social
housing, a third of privately rented homes are of poor quality with low levels
of low energy efficiency. Download a copy of the report from the NFA website.
