A Conservative MP is backing calls for an independent
inquiry into the way social housing is run in Brighton and Hove after the
council scrapped a tenants’ body to save money. Simon Kirby is supporting
tenants who have written to the government calling for an independent inquiry
after residents involved in the City Assembly passed a vote of no confidence.
The City Assembly is a twice-yearly meeting where people representing resident
associations and city-wide groups meet up to discuss topics that matter to
tenants and leaseholders. With 83% of the 68 people attending the Assembly
supporting the no confidence motion, those behind it claimed they were speaking
for the majority of the city’s 14,000 tenants and leaseholders. Read more on
